Well how old is your son? My youngest is 9, and he is very happy still playing with his Paw Patrol toys, even though he has so called kick ass toys as well. Hell I have an iPad, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, a wife, an iPhone and yet I still like to play with matchbox cars, and I’m 46
I was going to ask the same question! I have 4 (14, 10, 6 & 2) and the three youngest got the most kick ass toys for Christmas. What do they do? Make a fort out of the cardboard boxes and packaging and completely ignore the toys after the first 10 minutes. I was like YOLO, its Christmas and they're happy lol
I have 4 kids [13, 10, 8, and 5]. My 8 year old loves boxes. For Christmas, we got him a set that has connectors, plastic screws, plastic door hinges, etc and a whole lot of cardboard. He has been building forts, and my husband has been working on making him more pieces with the 3d printer. I just work with what the kid loves. :) "best present ever", he said.
Exactly. I let my kids play with whatever makes them happy, regardless of their ages. I have immature teens, and a very mature preteen, but they both still like playing with the simple things like boxes and blankets
Was the kick-ass gift bubble wrap? Not much can compete with bubble wrap.
Could be worse: he could be 16 yo
When I was 16, I was still playing with wrestling figures and GI Joe figures. I was happy and my parents let me be. I’m the same way with my kids. I don’t care what they play with regardless of age, as long as they are not causing trouble and being brought home by the police.
That's why the good kid toys haven't changed in centuries. Give them a ball, some building blocks, some clay, and they're happy as clams. Fancy toys are for when they're older.

Kids are like cats. You buy them expensive toys they play with for 5 minutes and in the end, they prefer the box, paper and ribbon.
