Today, my girlfriend called me and said she needs to take a break from our relationship. Why? Her really clingy ex is really depressed about her dating someone else and he isn't ready to accept it. So she wants to take a break "for his sake" until he's over her. FML

Today, I haven't heard from my girlfriend for over a week, after being in a relationship for 7 years with her. She'd called me, saying she had to care for her ex-husband because he had suffered a heart attack. Guess we're over. FML

That's not ok at all. He is effectively a homewrecker, and he probably meant to be one, OP. Unfortunately one of the better options would be to sit her down and tell her if she really cares about him like that, then go ******* be with him. (Exactly like that.) She better not come crying to you when he starts being clingy to the point of scaring her off.
