Reason number 527 that being in a wheelchair sucks. I'm disabled thanks to drunk drivers, and when I'm not at home I almost always use my wheelchair, as the pain is too great and the type of damage caused means that I can literally drop to the ground without warning. But rarely, I use a walking stick, when I'm up to it. The difference between the way people treat you when they think you're helpless as opposed to when they think you're not, is amazing. When in the chair, they either can't help you enough, or they treat you like shit, trying to cut in front of you in queues or trying to intimidate you for whatever reason. OP: Her life is hard enough as it is. Odds are you have NO idea just how different the world is from a wheelchair. This should, at the very least, have taught you NEVER to assume. Hopefully you'll never do it again. And hopefully you weren't carrying anything contagious that you passed on to her.
