Today, while leaving work, I noticed a woman struggling with her wheelchair. Trying to be kind, I grabbed the handles and began to push her. A few moments later, the front wheels caught on something and I ended up dumping her onto the ground. Now my coworkers all think I'm a huge douche. FML

As the OP thought he'd be nice and helpful it might have been the wrong way. I guess not all the wheelchair users (or is there a different word in English?) like it when they get help without asking first. I mean the one who wants to help should ask. It's a matter of respect.

I'm sure you meant nothing malicious. You accidentally dumping her is probably the least of her worries, anyway! As a person who uses a wheelchair, I think it is very considerate of you to try to help her. I know not all who use chairs feel the same way I do, but obviously they have other issues. Too many times, people look over the head of people in wheelchairs and do not acknowledge the person in the chair. I would rather be dumped out by a well-meaning person, than overlooked or ignored as someone who is not worth society's attention.
