Today, once again I tried to convince my dad to stop smoking. And once again, while I was speaking, he lit up a cigarette and smoked until my asthma flared up and I was wheezing so hard that I had to leave the room. FML

#1 In principle I agree with you. However I would have very little respect for someone who puts their own desire to smoke above their child's health. That respect plummets zero when he deliberately lights up in front of her in an attempt to possibly trigger an asthma attack only to prove a point. That kind of person doesn't deserve anybody's respect.

Some people just don't want to be saved, OP. It's especially hard on those who love that person and don't want to see them suffering.

Or suffer themselves as this case would seem!

What a dink! But seriously, telling a smoker to quit won't make them quit. He will when HE is ready

With asthma, though, OP can't really wait on her father. Living in a smokehouse can be deadly for someone who already has pulmonary issues.

You should let him smoke. But put down rules like no smoking in the house with your condition.

It is his own choice but it also rude he lit on up when you standing there and you have asthma

He will quit when he wants to. Until then, you hounding him will have no effect. Granted his smoking to make you have an attack, was a shitty move on his part.

You should show him a picture of what smoker lungs look like. Maybe that would scare him. And inform him of the fact that he could get, you know, lung cancer and such.

Oh my gosh, you're right! I'm sure the father, being a grown man, has neither seen nor heard of the negative effects of smoking. Thank Christ you were here to spare this man!

Although I agree that he shouldn't smoke (and definitely not around you) If he doesn't want to quit, no amount of asking, or even begging, will make him stop. I understand your concern about your father's health, but you should just respect that he doesn't want to quit, and ask him to at least avoid smoking while you're in the house

Your dad handled that in the most immature way.
