Today, my step-mother threw a surprise party on my acceptance to college. People kept telling me how delightfully shocked and happy they are for me. "UPenn" was written everywhere, when I really got into Penn State. Everyone thinks I'm going to an Ivy League. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML
Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML
Today, I excitedly told my mom how I got accepted to the master’s program of my dreams. She decided now would be a good time to proudly repeat for the millionth time how she gave up a full ride to the Ivy League to marry my father, and I ought to be a "good woman" and do the same. FML
Today, I attended my school's special invitation-only awards ceremony, relieved that I was getting a much-needed scholarship. I watched all my friends go up and win scholarships. In the end, I only got a certificate for doing well on the PSAT. My whole family showed up for this. FML
Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML
Today, I was accepted to the college of my dreams. Then I checked the address. Turns out, the letter was meant for my neighbor. I was actually denied. FML
Today, I announced to my family that I got accepted into Harvard. My grandma laughed and muttered, "Liar." FML
Today, I got a letter from Yale Law School saying I got a 4 year full scholarship. I called my dad crying and read the whole thing… even the bottom of the letter, which said, "April fools' ! Love, Mom and Dad." FML
Today, when taking a group picture with my closest friends, a passing parent congratulated us on getting into the same university for next year. She's wrong. They're all going to Cambridge, except for me. I was rejected. FML
Today, I threw myself a surprise party. FML

Honestly,let's just accept the fact that UPenn is a more prestigious school, has more money, provides a much more fulfilling college experience for its students. But unfortunately, there's actually no point debating which school is a better choice because the type of people who are accepted to Penn State probably didn't get into Upenn, and the type of ppl who can get into Upenn will be debating between other Ivys/tier one schools. People rarely deliberate between going to PSU or UPenn because the two schools attract very different types of people. I'm from PA, and I am very sick of the defensiveness of PSU people who think they go to a good school but doesn't have any data/facts/statistics to back themselves up.

oficerpat: I went to PSU undergrad (University Park) and now go to UPenn for graduate school. I like both for different reasons, even if UPenn is superior academically. You sound like a pompous ass, and appear to be much more conceited than everyone I have come across at this Ivy League institution. In conclusion, shut the **** up you raging idiot.

PSU was my third choice, and ended up going there (after UConn and UMass rejected me), and honestly, I'm glad I went there. I can understand why the OP is bummed about it, but seriously, you got into a GOOD university, and that's how I saw it. And by the beginning of my freshman year, I was psyched. So I hope you're not embarrassed that you got into Penn State. And yes, while I was up there, PENNSYLVANIANS asked me if I went to the "campus in Philly." You'd think they know their own schools, right? I just shrugged it off and said "yes"
