Today, I attended my school's special invitation-only awards ceremony, relieved that I was getting a much-needed scholarship. I watched all my friends go up and win scholarships. In the end, I only got a certificate for doing well on the PSAT. My whole family showed up for this. FML

I guess your family members PSAT through it for nothing.

Geez. Thy could have warned you what award you were getting beforehand! But hey, I hope your parents were proud of you though. You did accomplish something that some people (like me) have a hard time trying to pass.

You don't "pass" the PSAT's.

PSAT's are pretty much practice and the scores are kinda irrelevant

Sounds like both you and OP need to try harder.

Generally, the scholarship foundation notify their recipient prior to any recognition ceremonies as such.

At least you got something instead of nothing

I'd say a piece of paper with no value counts as nothing. Certainly not worth the time wasted attending the event.

Swing and a miss...

That truly does suck, fyl Op

You mean the National Merit Scholarship? Which is based on PSAT scores?

Yes. Its the same thing.

awww sorry op I wish they would of informed you prior to the ceremony if you were only getting a certificate.

It's "would have".

sorry about that,

There's scholarships you can apply for that ask SPECIFICALLY for PSAT scores, not SAT scores. You might be a Merit Scholar or have gotten commended performance. Since most people don't know how important the PSAT is for certain applications and scholarships/grants, they take it lightly. Be thankful.

You can get scholarships directly from schools for doing well on the PSAT though. It's how my brother got a full ride to Dartmouth.
