Today, my parents got a call from my English teacher. She told them that I have 14 days of detention because I've been cutting class. I've been there every day, but apparently she never noticed me. FML

That sucks seriously ive been there

That really sucks that you were counted absent 14 times. But if your teacher does a silent roll call and you're totally silent in class, then of course you're likely to be ignored. You don't have to act out or be a jerk like some people here are suggesting. Just go to the teacher and make sure you're counted present. It's too late now but try appealing the detentions to the teacher and show evidence of you being in class. If she doesn't believe you, take it up with the administration. If that doesn't work, then just suck it up and go to detention. Once you graduate from high school, no one cares about any detentions you had. The moral of the story is it's YOUR responsibility to make sure that you're counted as present EVERY class you attend. Don't rely on other people to account for your presence. You need to learn this because in college, professors don't give a shit. If they take attendance and you don't get counted present, you're gonna fail the class, no questions asked. PS: Don't be too hard on public high school teachers. A lot of them are overworked and underpaid and depending on the location, teachers have to deal with hundreds of students. With so many students to teach, of course they're gonna notice the students who participate in school, the A-students, and the troublemakers. I personally was a phantom, totally silent in class, but I always aced my tests so I was a teacher's pet :P

I have to disagree. If she does a silent roll call, then it's her responsibility to get it right. If she does a spoken roll call, THEN the students share in that responsibility.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to absolve the teacher of all responsibility; she still has the duty of making sure everyone in her class is accounted for. But the OP is a teenager, not a little kid. She's a young adult and needs to start taking responsibility for her education.

Wait, so if the teacher is doing a silent roll call (which I've never seen done anywhere, but that could be a US/non-Canadian thing), it's OP's responsibility to go up after every class and say, "Hey, you marked me as present, right?" Seems like if the teacher is a stickler about attendance and doesn't notice a student is present for TWO WEEKS perhaps they're either taking attendance wrong, or they need to be calling each name aloud.

Same thing happened to me!!! Except I actually skipped! >:)
