Today, my mother and grandmother informed me that my sixteen-year-old dog died. I was standing in Wal-Mart at the time. They then yelled at me because crying in public is "inappropriate." FML

I'm sorry about your dog...crying in public is perfectly alright; there are people who do it on a regular basis, for goodness sake. You just lost one of your best friends, I mean, c'mon. :( That's some insensitive family you have...sorry, OP. Perhaps you could get a puppy to fill the void a bit, after a little while? :D

sounds like my family.. I'm sorry OP. I know it sucks :/

For what? Finding it stupid to get overly attached to an animal? Shame on you for being so brainwashed.

I have. I just value human life far higher than some dog. I could never cry over a dog's death. It's just some mindless animal.

I'm so sorry OP. If my dog died, I wouldn't be crying; I would be dead probably from a broken heart. Just thinking about him not being here makes me tear up. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is insensitive and obviously have never loved anything.

Or, they love things that actually matter. Dog obsessors sicken me.

It is heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet. Your family is cold hearted to tell you that in Walmart. Then yell at you for being visibly upset.

"We'll tell her at Walmart, she wouldn't cry in public"

Yah, but its also inappropriate to yell at people in public...

Sorry OP. Just remember all the good times you had with her/him! 16 good years! Hope you feel better.

Man you must be great emotional support for people. "it's just your parents, get over it and move on. Man you're a whiny runt."
