Herpies is not only transmitted sexually, it can be transmitted orally. What this means is if either one of you kissed someone on or near the lips you may have gotten it that way and transmitted it to your partners genitals orally. I'm surprised the doc didn't give you this info. There are a lot of websites that can explain things more in depth. Best of luck to you guys.

instead of jumping to cheating remember that herpes can be transmitted other ways. Cold sores on the edge of the mouth is herpes, if you are displaying symptoms and go down on your partner BANG! genital herpes. cold sores can be transferred by something as simple as sharing a pop can with someone who has cold sores.... honestly, no excuse for not knowing about STDs that can be transmitted so easily.
