Today, my girlfriend of 3 years confessed that at first, she'd only dated me to get her friend jealous, and that even now, she "only kind of liked" me. I bought a ring only a few days ago, and was planning on proposing to her. FML

Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She asked if the ring was a temporary thing until I got a better one, saw my dumbfounded face, then played it off as a joke and said yes. I later found out she'd posted on Facebook bitching about the ring, but with the privacy setting set to hide it from me. FML

Today, my girlfriend of six years burst into tears and said yes repeatedly when I presented her with a ring. I then had to explain that it was a promise ring, not an engagement ring. She looked me in the eye and dumped me on the spot. Apparently, promise rings are for teenagers, not couples in their thirties. FML

Nah. You just need to find better people to put your trust into. I know plenty of girls that I can trust, and guys that date them trust them also. Not all girls are like that, not all guys are like that.

I would agree with "don't keep the ring," but mostly because when you find another woman to propose to that loves you, she would appreciate you picking out a ring that is specific to her and is what you think she'd like, not a ring you'd previously purchased for another girl. It'll mean more if she knows you picked it out with only her in mind.

my husband could have proposed to me with a ring that came out of a 25 cent machine and it still wouldn't have made any difference to me. it's like a ring handed down for generations it wasn't bought for you but it doesn't make it any less special.

it's just common sense to return the ring he just bought for a full refund. to give the same ring to your next girl would be nothing short of tacky as he I assume he worked hard to pick out the ring for her not his future girlfriend. who wants a constant reminder anyways

Rings handed down in the family and a ring you picked out for your ex have extremely different sentiments. If you and your fiancé don't care for fancy rings, that's fine, but I am assuming since he bought a ring for this girl that he may want to have a ring for the right woman as well, and I personally think a different ring would make more sense and be more thoughtful.
