Are you a prostitute? If not, why are do you expect him to buy your affection?
Well technically he's right, but diamonds are a more unstable form, and eventually try to get into the graphite form over time. In any case, we shouldn't be diamonds as consumers anyway, ever see the movie Blood Diamond? It's 10x worse than that in real life, and besides that, diamonds aren't ACTUALLY that rare, there are diamond mines bought by the monopolizing companies and untouched to keep diamonds "rare" and in demand. YDI for being a puppet consumer.
at least he's educated
How can you call him a smart guy? There is no way in hell that graphite and diamonds are the same thing, they are completely different molecular structures for one! Which is essentially why diamonds are so valuable.
YDI for being a selfish, self absorbed little girl.
My boyfriend could get me a ring out of a coin machine and I'd still say yes. If you're really in love with someone, it's not the rock in the ring or the karat of the gold - it's knowing that it's finally official and you'll be together forever. We could have a million dollar wedding in an old english castle or have some guy from the courthouse hitch us in our back yard - as long as I have him, nothing else matters. Time spent together is more precious than money or diamonds ;D
Wow people are so nasty and judgemental! Nowhere does it say that she turned him down or that she doesn't love him just cos of the ring, don't think she deserves to be called a gold digger or any of the other stuff! If she was hoping for a diamond, or at least something that looks nice (CZ or something), as is the norm, she has every right to be a bit disappointed with a bit of graphite. It's something she is expected to (hopefully) wear for the rest of her life, even if it's not expensive it should be something she likes the look of! I'm not particularly materialistic, but I'd be pretty pissed off if my boyfriend tried to give me something he knew I wouldn't like just for the sake of being clever or cheap or whatever his reason for it. Definitely doesn't make her a "selfish *****" as someone so charmingly put it, or mean she doesn't love him! FYL OP!
Be grateful he proposed...
