Today, I went out to meet a wonderful woman I'd chatted with online. I did have a few fears about if she was really just some guy trying to make a fool out of me. When I met her, she really was a girl, and was happy to see me. Problem: she was actually 13. I'm 34. FML

Today, I found out that the girl I've been dating online for over three months is actually a very bored 14-year-old boy. FML
Today, I met and asked a cute girl out on a date. We decided to meet at a fancy restaurant downtown. When I got there I saw her sitting with what turned out to be her parents. They made a huge scene, calling me a pedophile and a low-life. Apparently, the girl was 16 years-old. I'm 25. FML
Today, after I met a guy online and we'd became fast friends, talking every day about everything, things got flirty after half a year of talking. A year in, I finally got the time to meet up with him. It turns out he lied about his age. He's 8 years younger and in college. I fell head over heels. Help. FML
Today, I was finally going to break down my social barrier by going out on a date with a nice guy I recently met on a dating site. Just at the start of the date, he asked me how old I was, and out of pure nervousness, I blurted out, "12!" I'm 24. FML
Today, the boy that I met online six months ago and expressed my love to sent me a picture of himself and confessed how old he really was: thirteen. I'm eighteen years old and holding a steady job. FML
Today, I went on a 70-mile drive to the next town over to finally meet this beautiful girl I had talked to online. To my surprise, she looked exactly how she did in her pictures, minus the ring on her finger and the fiancé who wanted to punch me in the face. FML
Today, it's been a year since I met a guy online. We clicked almost immediately. Eventually we started dating, after proving who we are through many sources. Turns out he lied about his age after he conspired to make sure I was 100% in love with him before telling me the truth. He's legal but the age gap is uncomfortable. FML
Today, I was online dating and a girl from high school messaged me. Thinking she might have matured since we're now in our 40's, I messaged back. She then said it was a joke and that I'm still a desperate, pathetic nerd trying to score with the hottest girl in class. FML
Today, I finally got the chance to meet this wonderful guy I met on a dating site. She was very excited to see me, too. FML
Today, I was talking to a guy I met online and have known for four years. I've fallen in love with him twice, one of those times being currently. He was supposed to visit this summer. I got an email from him saying he's really a 17 year-old girl from Chesterfield, MO. FML

That girl is very lucky you weren't a pedophile. Shame on her for acting older than she was and meeting you, something terrible could have happened to her.

75 not a lawyer but my friend had been having issues with their niece... They took her in and were raising her and she was doing similar things going online and having really inappropriate conversations etc... My understanding of that situation is that the younger party if they have reached what is considered the age of consent is legally allowed to consent to sexual activity but that until 18 parents can still press statutory charges . Basically parents can actually approve of this type of behavior if the child is of a certain age we had a guy marry a 16 yo when I was in training in the military her parents signed all the needed consent forms she had been pretending to be 21 .... We always called these girls prosti-tots

PROSTI-TOT I had a hard time deciding between FML and YDI until I realized that this 13 yo girl couldn't have possibly had much depth to her there should have been signs and unless you were intentionally looking for a meaningless encounter I can't help but think you must have seen some major red flags... I don't know any 13 yo who can have several conversations with a person 2x their own age and provide enough depth to be called "a wonderful woman" I just get the feeling that what you were looking for may have been an easy hookup or some such no offense intended but YDI
