Today, I spat up blood and had horrible chest pain. My mom still made me go to school, claiming she needed to take the cat to the vet instead of me to the doctor. FML

It's likely either TB or the op got her ass kicked and a rib cracked recently. Either way, the doctor's not going to do much and it's unlikely to become an emergency situation. If it's TB the op might waanna go to the clinic to get a prescription though. They won't issue antibiotics without one here, not sure about there.

Spitting up a bit of blood because of a burst small blood vessel from coughing fits isn't uncommon, and generally isn't serious - when one has a more chronic cough, has constitutional symptoms (i.e. Fever, night sweats, loss of appetite, loss of weight), or the blood is significant (i.e. More than a cup) then one would worry...

Oh, and for the record, TB often causes quite significant haemoptysis (coughing up blood), and that would be an emergency and may require admission to hospital, anti-tussives (cough-suppressants), and even blood transfusion; and coughing up blood after having been assaulted would imply bleeding into the airways and significant injury to lungs and blood vessels - a broken rib causes lung collapse and blood / air in the pleural space, not commonly coughing up blood... Both of the scenarios you gave are quite serious, but also quite unlikely in OPs case - my bet is on a Upper Resporatory Tract Infection or a Bronchitis

I feel for you OP. My mom sent me to school when I burnt my feet. Boiling hot water + my bare feet = Alot of pain. Had blisters all over and still had to go. Not my best day of school.
