Today, I forgot to shut off some pumps before closing the main valves that run to them. Several sirens soon started blaring at a deafening level. I'm new here and nobody else is around. I don't know how to shut the sirens off. FML

Just walk away. Walk away and dont come back

Don't be alarmed OP, just call your boss/manager and ask him how.

I hope everybody realizes that "Today... FML" is just a stylistic convention. The OP wrote the story long after he contacted his boss, the pumps were safely shut down, and alarms deactivated.

Did you use to work at Fukushima?

Try reversing the process and starting again. Turn the pumps off first and then close the valves. Most sirens on a system like that will go off automatically when the problem is fixed.

well i think u better start looking for another job before they fire your ass

now's the time to learn OP... even though you might get in trouble for causing the malfunction in the first place, They might commend you for solving the issue on your own. if you still can't get it fixed, just call someone.

Since you're new you can probably get away with it, although someone should have covered that particular thing. Unless it was in the employee hand book which no one ever reads...
