Autumn: Leaves and Laughter
When the leaves fall, the laughter rises. Discover autumn stories as crisp as dried leaves!
Today, while working at a fine-dining restaurant, I was dicing veggies. I was paying such close attention to make sure the veggies were all the same size, that I managed to cut off the tip of my thumb. FML
Today, while demonstrating our new meat slicer at work, and after sharpening the blade at the end of the demonstration, I noticed some metal powder. I grabbed a rag to wipe it off, not realizing the blade was still in the “open” position. I now have six stitches and a really painful finger. FML
Today, I cut my finger at work while chopping some vegetables. I grabbed the nearest rag I could to stop the bleeding and put it on the cut. I didn't know the rag had just been used to clean up a lemon juice spill. FML
Today, during a workplace safety exercise at work, I managed to cut off the tip of my thumb. FML
Today, I sliced my finger on a frozen chicken cutlet. FML
Today, I was making sweet potato chips using my new slicer. I didn't mean to make a pinky finger chip as well. FML
Today, I was making myself lunch. I love cooking, and often, I pretend I'm on the Food Network. I started to slice some tomatoes rapidly, which, turns out, was a big mistake; I sliced my thumb open. FML
Today, while I was at work in a machine shop, I cut myself really bad. Not with any of the sharp tools, drills, or metals I work with. Just the soap dispenser. FML
Today, I managed to cut myself twice with a Swiss army knife. Stabbed in one hand and sliced a finger on the other. Good to know it's super sharp. FML
Today, I was cooking dinner for my children, managing for once not to screw up and hurt myself. Then, while chopping vegetables, I accidentally sliced my finger open. The same finger that was still covered in juice from a lemon I'd just squeezed. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thank you, your FML was submitted, and will appear the moderation soon!

Now there's going to be a lot of dumb criminals trying to rob a deli for the slicer so they can cut off their fingerprints as well.

I love the finger puns hehe. When using the toaster thing at a job I had at Subway, I burned my fingers through the melted plastic of my gloves. I happened to make a joke about by the time I was done working, I wouldn't have finger prints and could commit the "perfect murder". The customer was an off duty police officer lmao. Good thing she knew how to take a joke :)

Ouch! I had the same thing happened to me except it didnt remove my finger print. It removed a slice of skin on my pinky finger. I was in a horrible mood that morning because I had to work with someone who literally tried to get me fired. I hated her she hated me, I asked for help and she didnt help me out at all. It just so happens that when I was cutting a slice of ham for the customer, the blade became loose and got my pinky finger. I didnt notice it at firsy until I saw the blood and I was thinking " what the hell?". I went to the hospital where they stuck me with a needle in the same finger and I got stitched. To this day I cant feel nothing in that same finger and it sucks

Dang, just start this comment with "Today," and adjust it for length, and you've got yourself an FML.

Today, I got slaughtered because people think that some meager amount of pleasure gained by eating my dead body is more important than my feelings. FML (x 9 billion for animals in the US alone every year.)

*Meager* amount of pleasure? Hell, I nearly have an ****** every time I eat a Five Guys burger. As soon as cows rise to the top of the food chain, I'll stop eating them. Until then, go **** yourself.
askantik 4
Yes, give me the thumbs down. Doesn't make the facts change, folks. I love how people play the "top of the food chain" card. Just because we can subdue someone doesn't mean we should. We can live and be healthy without eating animals and we know that animals (in this context, at least) have the same type of central nervous system and basic brain structure as ourselves. They feel the same basic emotions and experience pain in the same way as ourselves. Both of these statements are well-established scientifically. The only retort you can give is to tell me to go **** myself or some crap about how something is okay because you are able do it o_O
DocBastard 38
Nope, my retort is three-pronged: 1) Don't preach your shit here. If people want to be vegetarian, they will be. I don't think anyone is going to read your comment and think, "Hey! Askantik is right! I'm never eating a succulent, juicy steak ever again!" 2) People eat meat. We are designed to eat meat and vegetables. Can we get by without it? Sure. But we don't have to. 3) Animals do NOT have the same brain structure as humans. If they did, they would say, "Ow, stop eating me!" I told you to go **** yourself because I don't like people trying to shame others into going vegetarian. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but don't try to force your beliefs on others. Since this is not a vegetarian vs. omnivore forum, feel free to PM me any further information on vegetarianism.

And I guess people who talk about evolution or global warming are also "preaching," is that right? This is a comments section, so we can talk about whatever we'd like here... no need for PMs. Aside from your poor word choice (that we are "designed" to do anything), human beings can live and thrive on a diet without animals or animal products. What we've done evolutionarily before the advent of writing, agriculture, science, and other technologies is irrelevant to this discussion. I'm not forcing any "belief" on anyone any more than someone who says, "The earth is warming," is forcing their "belief" on someone. The science is there. When I say that most vertebrate animals (especially mammals) have the same basic brain structure as us, that's a fact. Having the same basic (keyword basic) brain structure does not mean that suddenly non-human animals have vocal boxes and communicate in the same manner as English-speaking human beings. If you chase most animals, do they not run? They desire to continue living. They don't need a mouth or human-oriented vocalization to express that desire. A pig, for example, can get hungry and go search for food. A pig can get thirsty and go look for water. He can be scared. He can be happy. He can be sad, and He can be angry. Never once did I say (or imply) that pigs can do calculus or write poetry. But on a basic level, they aren't unlike us. The fact that other, non-human animals can feel emotions and experience feelings is not "my belief." Open just about any ethology book or journal from the past 50 years. Descartes' view of humans not being in the animal kingdom and all other animals being mindless automata has been delegated to the same area of history as the flat earth. Even 150 years ago, Darwin wrote that the difference between us and other animals is a matter of degree, not of kind.

TL;DR. I'm gonna go eat a bacon cheeseburger.

I find it ironic that you want to stand on a soap box about this. It's ironic because soap is made from animal fats. I don't know how you go from someone posting an FML about cutting their finger on a deli slicer to a PETA rant, but whatever, this isn't the place for it, and you're really not helping anyone. Personally, I think if people want to eat meat, they should have to hunt and forage for it themselves. I think we'd see a lot more vegetarians in the world if this were the case, but I'm not going to throw my beliefs into people's faces just because that's what I believe... and if I was, I'd certainly pick a better place than FML where people just troll and bash everything they read anyway. Honestly though, are you going to tell sharks that they can't eat smaller fish, or snakes they can't eat mice because it's cruel? There are a lot of studies that show people do need to eat meat to survive, and to obtain vital nutrients that you can't get solely from vegetables. There are equal arguments for both sides, so until you can address the issue properly, and not from a one sided view of things, you should probably just shut your yap.

I'm with Doc on this one. I'm pretty sure Five Guys could put sex therapists out of business. Yum.

I'm glad someone agrees with me, too bad I can't even see my own comment.

I don't kill people just because I can... I eat them! Would the person whom I killed, their family, or ANYONE else care if I said that? Explain to me why that is absolutely ludicrous when applied to a human being, but somehow you can justify it with non-human animals. The fact that you eat them after you kill them (when you don't need to eat them) doesn't account for anything at all. Hint: the "but they're just animals" shtick isn't actually a reason. It doesn't matter if you "don't waste anything" and eat every last scrap of the corpse, you still killed (or were responsible for the killing of) a thinking being when you didn't have to.
hotdogcore 9
Again, I love how this went from a missing piece of skin to a PETA rant. You're not going to do anything by posting this in a place where, as I said before, the commentators are mostly internet trolls, or people who are just looking for a laugh. You're getting about as far with this as a freak with a can of red paint would. If the poster had said they were slicing cheese would you have started this crap? Or are you one of those people that freaks out about all animal products? Let's say that the poster did say it was cheese, and that the cheese was produced from a cow, goat, sheep, and/or manatee that was hand milked (because the machines are so cruel and unusual) and so now you have nothing to say because no cruelty was done in the making of this cheese. Kthx, bai.
