#6 is right. you could sue him for that if you really wanted to. but it really wouldn't be worth it. you should go back there and ask to speak to the manager and tell him what happen, maybe the guy will get fired lol
Too bad the manager that the OP talked to is either going to be there or since managers are usually friends the next manager will blow the complaint off.
11- but it was the manager who did that.....
Well, I work at Starbucks, and I think we have a sign on the door that says we're hiring, but it's always been there, so it's not something we think about. Thing is, before the recession, we always took applications, but now that the economy is bad, all of the Starbucks I know, including my store, fired a lot of people in the last month. So now we tell everyone we're not hiring, because we really aren't hiring.
I have a very hard time believing this, mainly because no one is going to just flat out tell you no, every single time i have gone in asking for applications even if they arent hiring, they always say something like, "We aren't currently hiring at this moment, but if you would like to fill out an application we can keep it on file for the future." So in other words I'm calling 100% BULLSHIT!
actually... in regards to #6 the only protected rights are gender, age, pregnancy, right to form a union, disabilities, race... only 11 states have made it illegal to fire under sexual orientation. you can only sue if it's protected by a law, unless you live/work in a right to work state... if it's employment at will then it's totally legal... maybe not fair, but legal. that is crappy though! i would be so pissed if that happened to me! you could def. complain though. i would.
Maybe you weren't dressed properly.
although it is required to say that we are "always" hiring, no starbucks in the nation is hiring due to the economy. your life doesn't suck that badly.
MOCHA ZING!!!
#6. etc, you cannot go around just suing people. Seriously, everyone thinks they can just sue for god damned everything these days. They only way this would be even close to being lawsuit worthy would be if he legit said "I will not hire you because you are (racial slur) and I don't hire (racial slurs)". It's so stupid that everyone just assumes everything that happens to them is because of their race or their gender or whatever. #10 is right, you probably didn't look the part. In high school I had a lip ring and I always took it out for interviews and such things. If you don't dress right when you're trying to get the job, they will assume you won't dress right for work. I used to work at a restaurant and when we were hiring a 16 year old girl came in for an application while she was wearing Corona pajama pants. Pajama pants. With beer logos on them. When she wasn't even legally old enough to smoke. We desperately needed summer help and my manager told her we weren't hiring, and I think he made the right call.

WHAT A DICK. You should go back, ask for a drink and throw it at him.
#4 - re-read the fml verrry carefully alot of places have those up and just never take them down even when they don't need people.... like the kfc near my place that has the rusted, crooked sign near the drive through.
