Today, I decided to reach out to someone I'd met randomly. I found them on social media and sent them a message. After telling my SO, he pointed out that that was stalking. I'm a creep now. FML

it's not stalking if you just msg once simply to be friends n then leave the ball in their court. your so it's trying to make you feel weird/ bad.

Assuming that you’re allowing them the chance to say no and walk off, my views on this case are: If they (or someone else) introduced themselves first and last name and you found them just plugging that into social media, it’s not stalking but more an extention of the slow death of internet privacy. If they introduced themselves by first name but you’re both book-of-faces friends with someone who was at the event/location you met at, you’re probably also fine. If you went and searched the profiles of everyone you knew at the event and like two layers of their mutual friends in hopes of finding this one person, yes, that is stalking and you need to simmer down a little.

It’s not easy to make friends as an adult! If someone went to the effort to stalk and message me I’d be ecstatic!

I would also be ecstatic... but more because it would be the most interesting thing to most likely happen that week. I would also be a bit worried, given I didn't exude approachable and theyvare probably deranged.

It's only stalking if your prey does not want you to pursue them. If there's a sexual component, your SO might call it "cheating."

this is actually the exact purpose of having a Facebook
