Everyone's like "did you expect her to give it back?". But I'm pretty sure she didn't give back everything else she took either. OP's just adding it in to tell you that he's been very thoughtful considering he gave her his kidney, but she just ran off with all his crap.

Exactly. I can't believe how many people are repeating that. They're assuming he (or she) held it over her head and thought she owed him her life(no one knows either way), but they skip over the "she took everything" part.

Was the OP expecting the kidney back? I mean, it isn't like a piece of art. You can't really say "Oh and that kidney you donated, you can totally have it back now that we're breaking up". (Not to mention that, after a year, it's probably not in nearly as good a shape as when you donated.) What you did was awesome, but she obviously needed the kidney. Like everyone else said, it doesn't make her obligated to you, it just means she can look back and say "That was one of the kindest things a person did for me".
