Cougar

Today, I was at the laundromat doing laundry with my mom when the guy running the place asked if we were "together". I thought this was just because of Covid and social distancing, but it turns out he thought my mom was my wife. FML

One Christmas season a few years back I was visiting my mom and we went antiquing. The antique mall had a restaurant and we ate there. The server thought we were married. Mom liked that assumption (that she was closer to my age).

My mom married very young and I was born a year later when she was 17 (I am the first born child). Mom was in pretty good shape for her age, so the apparent age difference was a bit less. So it was an understandable mistake.

OP, don’t read to much into the assumption than your mom might have been your wife. It’s not that uncommon for older couples to have a decade or more age difference. Sometimes the wife is younger, sometimes older...
