I had a dog who did similar things OP. BUT... He was starved for attention, and leaving him alone made him feel abandoned. I truly believe that dogs are like kids. And you wouldn't leave a kid alone at home while you went on vacay, would you? You honestly should've found a good friend to pet-sit or boarded your dog while you were away. I don't want to say it because I empathize, but my heart is with the dog here.... YDI.

Wow. Can I retract that entire comment above because I'm a dumbass and didn't read the FML properly? I guess that's what happens when I read these things with one eye open and half asleep in bed. Sorry for the utter fail... And yes, your life sucks OP. Get your pup to obedience school though.

I agree. My dogs are diggers and chewers. They are trained to go in the crate when on vacation now because I've paid too much in damage due to their away from home behavior.

My dog is crate trained for that very reason. Smart breeds get destructive when they are bored. As much as the damage sucks, be thankful the dog didn't eat something that could have killed it. Crate training can be a pain at first, but all of my dogs love it now. When I travel, they have a familiar place to go and it keeps the stress of travel low.

See, my dogs aren't diggers or chewers, but they're so big that their tails knock vases off of tables. I have to ask, why did the dog chew the wall? Which is more likely, that it was out of nervousness or that something was in the wall?
