Today, I submitted my 208th job application in less than a year, and went to my 83rd and 84th interviews, only to be told once again that I'm over-qualified for the first, and under-qualified for the second. FML

Today, I have put in many job applications and had many interviews for a variety of positions all of which I am highly qualified for. Today, I heard back from all but one that I am overqualified. Welcome to Walmart. FML
Today, I've applied to 300 jobs in the past 4 months, gotten 7 interview, 2 of which have gone to a third round and I'm still unemployed. FML
Today, I'm at the unique point in my schooling that I'm either extremely overqualified or extremely underqualified for every job opportunity that appeals to me. FML
Today, I received a series of rejection letters from jobs, one after the other. Last night, I stayed up into the wee morning hours to apply to campus jobs I'm not qualified for, because I was classified as a part-time student due to an administrative error. FML
Today, I have applied to over 50 different jobs in the last month. I have NOT received a call or email back from any of them. FML
Today, I eagerly applied for a high-salary, fully supportive graduate program that I qualified for. There were 5 steps in the application process. I was turned down after the first one. FML
Today, I went on my 56th job interview since graduating from college 3 months ago. I am 31 years old and I spent 11 years in college. I only graduated with a Bachelor's Degree after all those years, but I am still not qualified for anything due to how long it took me to complete my degree. FML
Today, my application for a holiday role at a department store was declined because I was "not as qualified as some other candidates." I worked this exact same job at this exact same store last year. FML
Today, I discovered out of the 20 job applications only one job called me for an interview. They told me to leave after two sentences. FML
Today, while waiting for an interview at the career that I've been spending months tailoring my résumé for, I was thrown up on by my only competitor. Guess who got the job. FML

Hm not necessarily. I was over qualified for a job, and didn't get it because they didn't believe I truly wanted to work there and thought I'd get bored and quit after a short while.

27, it happened to my dad, they have people with less experience wanting the job and therefore will take a lot less money than it would have been for my dad. They told him "the job would be too easy for you." It's all about them saving money, in my honest opinion.

That, plus it ensures job retention. An overqualified person may be looking for opportunities to advance, whereas someone with lower qualifications may be willing to settle in for the long haul.

@ #7, they usually do that because they assume that you will leave them immediately for a better offer, and it costs money to train people, so they want you to stay a long time. It's unfortunate, though, since the job market really is terrible, so most people have no choice but to apply for jobs beneath their skill level.

Same here, I've been looking for one for over a year now and applying with no callbacks... That said, I'm in high school and have been fired before... for need of a photo identification when I had no driver's permit (2 years ago), and they didn't tell me I have to call back every day I didn't show up. (Even though, okay, yes, that should have been common sense, but I'm an idiot.) -_-
