Today, I've had a crush on a guy for a while - a friend of mine knows this. I finally decided to find out once and for all if there was any chance with him, so I drove to his house, armed with a home cooked meal and wine, only to find the very friend I confided in was at his house. It turns out they are now an item. FML
Today, I told my friend that I insisted on to remaining single, but yet he still wanted to introduce me to a friend of his. Turns out it was my ex, whom I haven't talked to for 5 years. FML
Today, as I recently starting having a huge crush on this one guy, my friend told me she told him about the crush, and that he reacted positively. I made a move, only to find out he has a partner. I've tried distancing myself to get over him but he befriended all my friends and is now in our group chat, and the crush has only intensified. FML
Today, the guy I've been crushing on at work finally asked me out to lunch. I was nervous we wouldn't have anything to talk about. He spent the entire hour talking about how amazing his new girlfriend is. FML
Today, I went to an old boyfriend's birthday party. An annoying friend suggested that we should try dating again. We were both with our new partners, who were standing nearby when she said that. FML
Today, I've had a crush on my friend for a long time, and everyone around us had convinced me that he had feelings too, so I finally confessed. I got sister/friend-zoned. I'm trying not to cry myself to sleep. FML
Today, I found out that yet another of my guy friends liked me. I then posted on social media that I just wanted a guy friend that had absolutely no romantic feelings for me. My crush volunteered. FML
Today, at lunch, I told a bunch of people how I had been in love with this guy since freshman year. I made a bunch of jokes about how I was going to marry him and our kids would be so attractive. He was at the table next to mine and looked back at me as soon as I finished. FML
Today, I was hanging out with a friend at an ice cream place, and a guy started chatting with us. As he eventually went to leave, he told me, "That's a nice looking date you got there." Then he turned to my friend. "Wish I could say the same to you." FML

Emotionally tone deaf? Just because someone is romantically interested in you, does not mean you have to indulge them. It's pretty likely the dude has picked up on her feelings and used that story to defuse the situation in a nice way.

Maybe he just wanted to make it clear how he felt right away so he didn't feel like he was leading you on. As shitty as it had to feel, I've been strung along before, and I would have rathered they were straight forward from the beginning rather than play with my emotions. Stay positive though OP, there is someone for you out there

If there's been some miscommunication here then he could also be under the assumption that OP doesn't have feelings for him and that is why he said this. OP may have missed an opportunity.
