Autumn: Leaves and Laughter
When the leaves fall, the laughter rises. Discover autumn stories as crisp as dried leaves!
Today, despite filling all the parameters for a model employee and being praised by multiple people over the time I was working, I was fired because a client complained to my manager that I didn't seem to know what I was doing. FML
Today, I was fired from my job because I, in my boss's words, "Abided by company policy to such an extent that customers were starting to hate me." FML
Today, I was fired for being a very happy and perky employee. According to my boss, it freaks both the customers and my co-workers out. FML
Today, my boss was angry at me because I had filed a complaint about him refusing to change our phone service to something more reliable. Later, a customer called him and said I had hung up on him. I got fired. I didn't hang up on the customer, the phone service just dropped the call. FML
Today, I got yelled at for providing horrible customer service, in a store I don't even work for. FML
Today, at work, my computer started acting up. I told my boss I could fix it, but he told me to call the IT department instead. Neither the IT technician or his supervisor could figure it out, so I showed them what was wrong and how to fix it. I was promptly fired for wasting 2 hours of company time. FML
Today, a customer filed a formal complaint with corporate about me, because I wouldn't help her find things she wanted while I was off the clock. We were in a completely different store than the one where I actually work. FML
Today, I was fired on my second day of work after a year and a half of unemployment. Apparently, my "tendency to solve problems instead of just accepting them made the other workers uneasy". FML
Today, I was fired for actively seeking employment with another company. Because of having just been fired, the other company will no longer give me the time of day. FML
Today, I won employee of the month. I was then fired for being late. FML

How can people vote "you deserved that one" on this :/

You sure about that? Even via e-mail? Or a phone call that you may have been a little rude to the person because you had never met them? Because I.T guys are well known for their temperament and patience when it comes to speaking with plebs on the phone/e-mail. For the record I am in IT. So I get how it happened. You just got to be more careful about that. Even if you think you were joking or being funny. the wrong person reading it could take it another way and get you outta there very quickly. But on the off chance you actually didn't do or say anything wrong to this person, well then **** them. I hope you gave them a nice virus or at least reset all their passwords/encyrpted all their e-mails before you left.

#1 I think the OP is misunderstanding that his customers, in this case, are anyone he provided IT help to. This isn't an FYL, guy must have rubbed another employee of his company the wrong way. In all likelihood it was a very important employee by the sounds of it.

I did by accident

Exactly. In every company I've worked so far, IT people always had something special in their personality that made most other people hate them.

having your revenge before leaving would lead to a lawsuit and a hefty compensation payment where I live.

firing someone on false pretenses is illegal where i'm from

My guess... if they're pulling random reasons to fire you, they must have some reason to want you gone. Still, that doesn't mean it was this person's fault. Sucks man...

Maybe its because you haven't talked to the customers? Or maybe the stuff you have fixed wasn't good enough and since you don't speak to any of them you aren't aware of it. Whatever it is, you should have asked your boss to justify it and you wouldn't need to be all sour about it.

If you're not talking to customers in some way, how can you not be providing bad customer service? You don't have to meet someone in person to talk to them and provide service.

You can still be providing customer dissatisfaction even if you've never spoke to a customer. Maybe they've had numerous complaints about your work or something like that. If you're really confused, then ask your ex-boss to clarify exactly why you've been fired. You deserve to know if you want to.

I work in IT, so I know why you're confused. The thing is, your *company's* customers are not *your* customers. *Your* customers are the employees in your company for whom your services are required. If you did any work for anyone in your company and you did something they didn't like or just upset them in some way, then there you go.

maybe it's about internal customers. Go ask your ex-boss - he is also one of your internal customers, too.

I work in IT as well--they probably just wanted a reason to lay off/get rid of someone to save money, and that was the best excuse they could come up with. This recession's killing everyone. My building just had to let go about 60 people.. :/
