Honestly, I'm seeing a pattern here on this site. Whenever someone is deprived of an opportunity by their parent's actions, a huge portion starts harping on independence and self-sufficiency. That was NOT the point. A parent had just found it appropriate to deny their child an opportunity for (often) inane reasons. THAT in itself is FML worthy. Is independence good? Definitely. Is it *that* important in this context? Not at all.

I really hate when people automatically assume that it's the individual's own fault that they can't drive. I can't drive due to being legally blind and Im lucky enough that my city has a special transport service for handicapped individuals and those who cannot drive. But they do not offer public transport for the non-handicapped. However, until I was accepted into that program, my mom was my personal taxi and there were jobs I couldn't take because they were "too far away" (ie 20 mins away or longer). As for Uber, I couldn't afford two taxi trips (one to work and one home) 5 days a week. OP may be dealing with the same things, either a health issue or financial issue, and their city may not offer public transport. Everyone is so quick to judge someone who can't drive and thinks there's an easy solution and thats not always the case.

Get your licence and move out OP.
