I don't know what it is with people and racism.
I think racism stems from the fear of the unknown. Most racists are undereducated and feel threatened in some shape or form.
I think most people just don't really want to date a different race than them because they don't find them attractive, it's not really racist.
So why was OP's ex 'attracted' to OP for 6 entire weeks before she learned his race? Not been attracted to someone is completely normal but its like being attracted to a white person but dumping him/her because you don't want to date an African (if they're from South Africa).
Hey! You're from the other FML! Good to see you're still on.
I don't think this was racism. She most likely was just looking for a reason to break up with OP.
I guess she found the idea of being with someone of a different race exotic and exciting. Very stupid and very shallow of her.
She must be a certain kind of special.
Obviously she wants to date and procreate with someone who's Asian because her intelligence is so incredibly lacking. That's the only thing I can come up with.
Yes, but would this "smart asian guy" want such dimwitted offspring?
"Go to your room! Don't come out tirr you Doctor!"
21 It was a joke using the stereotype that all Asians are smart and pointing out OP's ex girlfriend's obvious lack of intelligence. It wasn't meant as a racist remark.
.. It's not like being stereotyped as a smart person is a bad thing
To #54, #2 isn't the one being racist, she's simply saying that OP's ex may have used that stereotype as a reason for breaking up. It's a common misconception about Asians so it wouldn't be out of this world to imagine OP's ex as believing. Plus, knowing a stereotype exists is much different than believing one.
65- point taken. Being aware vs believing 64- positive stereotypes can be demeaning and discouraging as well. The asians who are smart are smart because they are smart. Not because they are asian. Let's give a little credit to their natural ability are work ethic rather than dismissing it as a characteristic of their race as so many people do. Then there are asians who aren't as smart as they are "supposed to be" according to "asian" standards. Then they get called dumb when by other standards they are actually quite intelligent. Positive stereotype, negative stereotype, stereotyping isn't ever really good.
54 it's more like saying black ppl are good at basketball it's a positive racial stereotype
What dumb ass girl were you dating OP?
How is that even relevant?
...as opposed to Asia?
She is obviously ignorant! It shouldn't matter where your from!
You're*
Sounds like a lame ass excuse to end it with you, or she's really just not the brightest one out there. Maybe it's both...
She's so not worth your time!!
