Today, my boyfriend proposed. The ring just had a piece of graphite on it. My boyfriend argued that since graphite and diamonds are both just forms of carbon, it is the same thing. FML

why are you bitching? at least you know he wants to spend the rest of his life with you now, so shut the **** up and be happy.

There is a difference. The carbon in diamonds is arranged in the form of a crystal lattice, whereas graphite is sheets of carbon that easily flake off. Soon enough, your "ring" will just be the band. For such a "smart" nerdy guy, as you guys are calling him, he sure is dumb.

but he is right, they both ARE Carbon. and how long do you expect them to remain engaged?! it'll take a fair while for a graphite crystal to wear down int nothingness!

259- Some people wear both their wedding band and their engagement ring for the entirety of their marriage.

Oh boohoo you got a piece of graphite on your ring instead of a diamond. Get over it! IF you really love him and want to be with him... what is it going to matter if it's just a piece of graphite instead of a diamond? Or is it that you just wanted to show it off to all your friends and be like... look at the rock my boyfriend gave me. And now you'll be ashamed? He definitely deserves better than you.

Well, if it's not good enough you aren't worth marrying anyways. I'm sure he'll let you keep the ring. ;)

Tell him that masturbation and intercourse are both sexual, so they're the same thing.

if u think ur pussy is that precious u can keep it

Well, I certainly don't think YOURS is.

You know, I never understood why it 'always' has to be a diamond ring during proposal. I knew a young darling who proposed with a novelty Steampunk ring and she said yes. I don't think she's ever going to take that clever piece of artwork off.

I'd give all I had just to be with the one I love. Maybe you should stop caring about the materialistic things and realize your lucky to have him.

of course it's the same thing. get over it and congrats.

funny how ur referring to him as boyfriend instead of fiancé after he proposed =)

Says a lot about the aftermath, doesn't it?

everyone saying that op should be grateful he proposed...there's not enough info here to say that he's such a catch. granted, we only have her side, but he sounds like a total jackass. op, if I were you, I'd take this as a hint and run the hell away as fast as you can.

You're saying that we don't know the whole story, but that he sounds like a jackass. Au contraire, she sounds like the jackass, because it says he argued that they were the same, which means that it is implied that she questioned something along the lines of, "Why no diamond?" Why else would he "argue" that it was made of carbon?
