Today, my boss asked me to read through a document. I gave my feedback, saying it seemed like it had been written by an 8-year-old. Turns out it was in fact written by him. FML

You're supposed to give constructive criticism, not be a d-bag about it...

Don't expect that honesty to earn you a promotion anytime soon OP...

Your boss gave you something to read and you didn't assume he'd written it??? Ydi

Yikes. This is why you're never bluntly honest. You can still be honest, but in a more mature way.

oh well that's why he asked you to read through it right? for your opinion...

I had to say YDI because you had no reason to expect the document to be written by anyone other than him.

It's the same way with my science teacher.

That seems like an unprofessional response. Your boss asks you to proofread a document and that's your answer? Seriously? Why wouldn't you read it over and simply offer a few suggestions for improvement? I'm sorry, but I can't understand why you would make that comment or why you would feel you didn't deserve the embarrassment afterwards.

Hey, he asked for feedback and that's what you gave him

When someone hands you something to read, always assume it was written by them, just to be safe

Your boss gave it to you. Wouldn't that be an indicator that maybe, just maybe, he had something to do with it?
