Today, it's been a week and a half since our hot water stopped working. Our landlord said he'll get on to it "in 3 days", after having said this already a few days before. I have to wash myself with a bucket and boiled water. FML

Today, and for the last two weeks, my asshole landlord refuses to fix the hot water supply. My shower is now so cold that peeing on myself while washing is actually helping. I need a new place. FML

Today, due to plumbing issues, I had to choose between a goosebump-inducing cold or skin-blistering hot shower. This is the 7th day in a row. My husband says it shouldn't be more than another week before he "gets it figured out". FML

Today, we've hit day 4 with no hot water in my apartment. Today is also day 4 of the office insisting that the plumber is "on his way". My neighbor just got arrested for screaming at them. Looks like we'll be entering day 5 soon. FML

Today, I went down to my accommodation office in fiery wrath, demanding that something be done about my three-days-cold shower. Looking dubious, they sent someone back with me. As soon as we got there he looked at me with deep pity and pulled the cord in the corner that activated the hot water. FML

Today, I found out my landlord is too cheap to turn up the hot water tank enough to have a comfortable shower. There's a huge padlock on the door, she won't budge, and I'm signed in until December. FML

Today, the gas company came to connect our stove for free. While here, they broke our hot water heater, shut it off, and issued us a hazard notice. We can fix it, but they won't be able to come back for another two weeks to turn the gas back on. We don't have any hot water until then. FML

Today, my roommate forgot to pay the water bill on time, so they shut it off. Now we're without running water for 3 days and I'm taking my morning dump in Target next to a stranger. FML

Today, I've been without hot water for three days thanks to a frozen water line. I finally managed to thaw the frozen area, only to have the chunk of ice dislodge, slam into a bend in the pipe, and burst the line. FML

Go to a truck stop and pay for a shower. Then start looking for a new apartment. They can't hold you to a lease if the hot water is not working.

You should be legally allowed to withold some, or all, if the rent when basic amenities and repairs are not carried out in a timely manner. I suggest you put it to him in writing that you will be doing just that.

In some jurisdictions, you can stay at a hotel until the landlord fixes the issue that makes your residence unlivable (no hot water would qualify), and you can deduct the costs incurred, including having to eat out, from rent. And as others have said, it usually allows you to terminate the lease without penalty.

Guys, witholding the rent without proper notice is illegal, akin to chopping to pieces the guy who stole your car. However, calling a plumber and sending your landlord the bill is totally legal. You can also call a locksmith if you don't have the key to the room where the water boiler is.

1. It’s the landlord who’s not doing anything, not OP. 2. Don’t assume that OP is doing nothing because they’re on here. Making a post does not imply not taking action. Idk why people think that’s a thing now.
