Today, I was at a pond taking pictures with my new camera. I saw a mama duck leading her babies around and decided to get in closer to take a picture. Mama duck got spooked and led her babies too close to a waterfall escaping. One fell off. It never surfaced. FML

Today, I tried to take a cute selfie with a majestic swan by a lake. Just as I was about to take the pic, the swan suddenly got visibly bored of my shit and chased me into the water. I emerged from the lake looking like a soggy, defeated swamp beast. FML

Today, we took the kids to the local pond near my sister-in-law's to feed the geese. I hadn't been there before, and thought I'd take a picture. I turned around to adjust my camera, but the geese, realizing the feast had ended, took flight. Before I could react I was showered with goose shit. FML

Today, while driving home, I swerved to avoid turning a duck and her babies into roadkill. Another car was coming around a sharp bend at the time and swerved to avoid hitting me. In the end, we both ran our cars off the road, and he took out several ducks in the process. FML

Today, while running in the park, I noticed some ducks in a pond. I stopped to look at them and began quacking at them, to see if they would react. This would have been OK had I not been wearing ear-buds, blasting music, making me unable to realize just how loud I was quacking. With people all around. FML

Today, I saved a baby bird from the site I work on. It was the runt and did not have any feathers and was neglected by the mother. I took care of it all day at work and planned on taking it to a wildlife reserve after work. Two minutes away from the reserve, we hit a pothole and I dropped it. It died. FML

Today, I was walking my dog through a park with a lake. My dog was swimming in said lake, and then appeared to be having trouble keeping his head up. I put my phone and keys on the ground and waded to my dog. He was fine, but I turned around in time to see someone run off with my stuff. FML

Most ducklings die before reaching adulthood anyways. That's why mother ducks lay so many eggs, because invariably a good number of them will succumb to some form of animal carelessness like this. There are always a lot of ducks that come by my house, and every year I watch as the clutches dwindle in number, until just one or two young adults remain. It's nature, my friends. Not all ducklings can survive, otherwise there would be duck overpopulation. The OP didn't kill the duckling, it killed itself by swimming too close to something it should have recognized as dangerous: natural selection.

I wonder, how many of those who are calling me a murderer for stepping two feet off the walkway I was on towards some ducks, have ever donated to an animal welfare fund, or written senators to urge them to fight against the seal hunt. I wonder how many will eat a meal with chicken in it today. Talk is cheap, and some of you guys are idiots. I feel guilty about what happened, but some of you guys are just absolutely nuts. For the record, it was a public pond where people feed the ducks all day long. Not exactly wildlife to keep distance from... Had I a morsel of bread in my hand instead of a camera they would have been chasing me down instead.
