Today, I came home to find a note on my door. I thought it was from my elderly disabled neighbors thanking me for cleaning off their snow covered car, since about 6 inches came down. It was from them, only it said I owed them for damages to their car. Damages that were already there. FML

I'm not sure if the good Samaritan laws apply in a nonmedical situation however they say that if it was within you capability to do something and you do and happen to cause a bit of damages they can't do anything about it

That's incredibly stupid. The good Samaritan law is meant to prevent people from hesitating to help people in life threatening danger because they're afraid of lawsuit. How is a snow covered car life threatening? I would be pissed if some dumbass decided to clean off my car with a shovel without my permission and put scratches all over it in the process.

I know it's frustrating but just send a letter back saying the damage is there before so you won't pay and you were trying to do them a favour anyway, they would need to prove you caused the damage to pursue it.

Could you come over here and clean the 2 meters of snow off my car?

Maybe next time you think before thinking you can jump in a do whatever you want with/to people's things. It wasn't your car and unless they asked you to do it...you had no right.

tell those old bastards to go **** themselves

Honestly going out of your way to do something nice for someone else always ends up bitting you in the ass somehow

Haha send them a request to pay for damages on YOUR car... That'll confuse them :)
