Today, I broke up with my boyfriend of 4 years, telling him he needed to be more responsible, and stop relying on me for everything. When I told him to leave, he told me he needed some gas money. FML

Just one last mooch, for old times' sake. You wouldn't want him to stay because he couldn't afford to leave? Pay the man.

fhl your life just got instantly better.

I can't believe you stayed with a mooch for 4 years. At least you finally dumped him.

Tell him to get out. If you don't want him there and he refuses to leave, then that's trespassing.

hahah. that's hilarious. give him gas money & get him the hell out.

Not an fml, you just got proved right! f his life!

^Agreed. Hope she didn't actually give it to him though.

And it's an FYL because you gave it to him, didn't you?? Sucker.... Shoulda told him he was SOL this time and to go mooch elsewhere for it.. I wish you luck (and some common sense) for the next time...

and can we do it just ONE more time..... pleeeeeaaaassseeee haha

Well, if you know he has the money for gas, then just kick him out and refuse to pay. However, if he really doesn't have the money, give it to him so that he will leave, however if he comes back thinking you'll carry on letting him, shut the door in his face, hopefully he will get the message. Just make sure he doesn't have a key.

Um, no. She shouldn't give him the money anyway. If she wants him out and he refuses the leave, then she can call the cops to remove him.

Brianjman - So your suggestion is to take a, so far, fairly civil situation and call in the cops? What is wrong with just keeping the situation civil and acting like mature and responsible adults? In this case, she doesn't need to involve the cops if she does just lend (or give) him the money, rather than wasting police time by getting them involved with something they don't need to be involved in. Not to mention what Chaos as already said about the legal right to his car.

^^ Are you two serious? If someone (who isn't a rent-paying tenant or something similar, which OP indicates he isn't) is no longer welcome in your home and refuses to leave you have a right to have him removed from your property. And why on earth would she try to keep his car? Yeah, so he'd come back for it later with his own damn money, big whoop. This is all assuming the ex turned into a big child, threw a tantrum, and refused to leave though.. which I doubt he would do, cause this doesn't sound like a bitter breakup per se. Making this conversation pointless.

Underyourbreath - In the original FML there is nothing about him refusing to leave, he asked for a little help to get out of the OP's life. Considering how he could have reacted, it's not that big of a deal. I wasn't saying the OP shouldn't call the cops if he refuses to leave point blank, or even keeps coming back, I'm just saying it will save a lot of time and effort if she just gives him a small amount to get him on his way. And with the car, we were just mentioning that if he has next to no fuel then he will come back later to collect his car, and if she's had him bodily thrown from the property, this will just make the situation more awkward than it needs to be. Though like you said, we're debating points that we don't know happened, so pointless. I just thought I'd point out that our points aren't that far apart.
