Today, as I was helping a customer, she asked if it was my first day and who was training me. Evidently, I'm bad at my job, because I've worked there for 7 months. FML

That's when you tell her you technically haven't even started yet and are entirely self-trained. Instead of being disappointed by how long you've been at the job, she'll be surprised by how capable you seem despite your lack of experience!

It's possible that she may not be a regular customer or goes in on days that you're not there. I'm sure you're a great worker!

Or she's just a horrible customer.

I've worked my current job for almost 9 years, and am a manager, and people sometimes ask when I started working if I work a shift I usually don't. "You must be new here!" Nope, just the night manager filling in a shift. Just laugh it off, people like to feel special by "knowing" everyone who works in a store.
