I understand the saying "blood is thicker than water" but after 4 yrs of zero contact with my own father, I've learned that the family you make (and not born into) is your real family. And before I get hate on this, I gave up on my having a relationship with my father years ago, but I wanted my sons to know him. My sons no longer ask why he doesn't want to see them. No one from my fathers side calls either ( I remarried to a wonderful Hispanic man and even he wonders if he is the reason behind "dad" actions). So sorry to hear about that OP
