consider yourself very lucky it could have been something more critical like your head, chest or leg. always carry a jack stand in your trunk or use the flat tire you just took off and position it underneath the car as like a backup in case the Jack fails.
it also could have been a much worse hand break. hands are full of small easy to break bones which can easily be shattered from a car crushing it.
Yeah jack stands aren't that safe either. Had a stand and our jack and it just buckled sideways. Best bet is to never have your appendages under the car where it'll crush ya.
