Whoa...um I would be so freaked out. Seriously. Yeah, that was a burn to you by just leaving, but you kinda brought it on yourself. It isn't really that hard to as a friend to a dance. Especially if he is your friend. Even if he isn't going as a date, he will go as friends. I'm a girl and I know for a fact that if I asked any of my guy friends something like that they would. I seriously isn't hard.
I'm going to agree with the creepy/over-the-top crowd. Guys are NOT girls! When are girls going to learn this? All the people saying this is sweet, from the way I read their comments, sound like they're girls. Sure it's sweet to you (although if a guy did it I wonder if you'd think the same...), but to a guy it's just over the top. I don't blame him at all for being scared off - although it is kind of an asshole move to drive away, the only other option you gave him was confrontation on his front lawn. I'm sure you meant well, but try just asking next time...
You had a sweet idea, but I'm sure you completely embarrassed him. I mean, signs all the way home? EVERYONE had to have seen them.
BBBUUUUUURRRRRNNNNNN!!!!
A bit excessive, but essentially sweet - until I read about the balloons. 151 posts and NO-ONE mentions picturing Pennywise the clown in the driveway?
Kinda creepy doing all that. You shouldve just asked him

You brought that upon yourself. Just ask him. Sheesh.
OUCH!
