Today, I was saying goodbye to my 5 year-old son before dropping him at my mom's, as I was leaving for two days, and told him I would miss him. He said, "l won't miss you, I never miss you when you are gone." FML

Today, my son was crying because he wanted his daddy, and he asked when he can see him. I had no idea what to say, given his dad left us in the middle of the night last year, now lives in another country, and told me he never wants to see us again. FML

Today, at my mother's funeral, as everyone was around her casket for the viewing, my 5-year-old son in cluelessness of what was going on shouted, "Grandma is more fun when she isn't sleeping." Everyone cried. FML

Today, I have been teaching my 5 year-old step-daughter how to read and write. She came bounding up to me with a piece of paper and said, "look what I did". It was a letter that said "My dad misses my real mommy, not you". FML

Today, I listened to a voicemail from my mom about how she misses me and can't wait to see me when I get back from vacation. Thinking she hung up, my mother then had a conversation with my aunt about how quiet the house is without me and how she'd be blessed if I didn't come home. FML

A) he's a kid. Relax. B) It's actually probably a good thing. This way you won't have to ever break him of a homesickness issue when he's older. C) if he's REALLY intelligent, he might be trying to help YOU to worry less about how he's feeling. D) ignore the idiots who reply like he's a bad kid. They have no idea what they're talking about.

I feel this way about my parents all the time. He's not a bad kid, maybe it's just genuinely how he feels at the moment, it could definitely be a phase.

Not all that big a deal, he's just a little baby an doesn't realize that's not a nice thing to say. Probably should have sat him down and told him that saying things like that hurts your feelings.

wow you're a shit parent! it's imbeded into children to have a fear response if a parent leaves. him saying that means he's got so used to it he no longer has this. also you're likely to have helped him develop maternal/paternal deprivation
