Today, while at the restaurant I work at, a bunch of kids came in. They all gave incredibly complex orders, laughed at everything I did, and made a huge mess by "spilling" hot sauce and water all over the floor. After they left, I was tipped eleven cents. FML

Today, at work, I got to wait on one of those tables where everyone had very complex orders, and some of them sent their food back. When the time finally came for me to bring them their check and receive my well-earned tip, I returned only to discover that they'd dined and dashed. FML
Today, at work, I served a group of three teens. Their tab was $75 and they tipped me nothing. They wrote a thank you on a piece of receipt paper, put it in a glass of water and used a coaster to turn the glass of water upside down on the table, spilling water everywhere. They also stole my pen. FML
Today, at work, 5 minutes after I'd sent my help home, we got an 83 dollar order. I'm the only cook. FML
Today, I was feeling sick but went into my waitressing job because I'd already missed 3 days this week. I was dizzy and managed to spill a tray of drinks all over the customers. Then, when their food was done, I tripped and spilled hot chili all over the man's lap. FML
Today, I was waitressing for a huge family. Their bill was $750. Excited about the tip, I was shocked to see only $0.50. As they were leaving, I threw the two whole quarters at their heads. Guess who also got fired today. FML
Today, as a restaurant hostess, I fell into the fountain at work while carrying a high chair in front of several large parties, who all promptly laughed at me. We were so busy, I had to stay and finish my shift soaking wet. FML
Today, I started my first day as a waitress. After getting my ass slapped, drinks and food spilled over me, and being tripped by a bratty kid, my tips were stolen. FML
Today, I was taking a table's order. After I finished, the guy told me, "Just FYI, I'm not a tipper." Trying to lighten up the situation, I replied, "It's amazing how many people forget I handle their food." He complained to the manager that I'd threatened him. FML
Today, at my job as a waiter I sharted myself while taking an order. They tipped me $20 and wrote "for new underwear" on the receipt. FML
Today, I ordered pizza for dinner and left cash by the door so my son could pay for it, in case it arrived before I got home. I told him they should get all the money, but I just found the tip. Apparently he thought I'd miscounted. I'm a server. FML

It stops being a tip as soon as its mandatory because a tip is gratuity that's given voluntarily for services. The "mandatory tip" for a large party is really service charge because a large party guarantees more work. To save ya'll the trouble of reading my whole rant--my point is: Tipping is a social norm and not a law. The rest isn't really directed to you #71 (so don't take offence) but to those with this idea that you're entitled to a certain amount of bonus-pay in life. Maybe you feel you do deserve a 15%+ tip because you work your butt off, you're paid less than min wage and you have bills to pay. It's really just "too bad-so sad" for you so stop mopping around for not getting what you want. Whether customers are a bunch of kids (not everyone can afford to tip) or rich folks, they're not obligated to tip you. Really, the only real FML here is for having to deal with disrespectful kids. *I always tip 15%+so no, this isn't me trying to justify my cheapness.

In many places in the US, it's technically illegal to add an obligatory tip or service charge to a bill. Restaurants gets away with it by calling them "suggestions," but they don't advertise that you can have it removed or adjusted. Kinda sneaky.

^ That's crap. If you're old enough to order from the Big Person menu, you're old enough to act like an adult, and tip as such. TBF though, people will generally rise to your expectations when they sense what those are. When a waitress decides I'm not going to tip well and I'll be a big hassle because I look young, I can tell. Usually they give you crappy service, and earn exactly what they get: a crappy tip.
