Last Christmas

Today, I looked at my neighbor's empty lawn; he's an old guy and he usually has the best Christmas lights. We knew he might not be able to do them this year, so I felt bad and I did them for him. Later, a neighbor asked about them and I told her that I helped out. She said, "You do know he died, right?" FML

He's there in spirit. You did a nice thing.

Well, you were right when you figured he wouldn't be able to do them this year anyway...

YDI for not trying to consult with him beforehand.

Don't feel bad at all. You did something GREAT!

Aw, I think what you did was very nice. Not many people would even care about others needs.

I don't know why so many people voted YDI. You decided to do a nice thing even though you didn't know.

Sounds like the guy would have appreciated it, had he been alive. His family might be trying to sell the house, and having it look nice and homey with Christmas lights sure makes THAT easier. You did a really nice thing, OP. However, normally I'd say you should consult with the owner of a house before decorating it.

While it was a nice thought, you should always check with people before doing anything on their property! You could be arrested for trespassing & even vandalism or some other ridiculous charge!

theres so many flaws to this story tho. wouldnt she talk to him before doing that on his property and his christmas lights would surely have been inside his house not just sitting there for her to use them
