YDI for trying to propose in public, especially in front of your family! your girlfriend would have felt very uncomfortable. you should do it in private, it's also more romantic! ;)

When are men going to learn that telling ANYONE ELSE about their plans to propose is a really bad idea?

I would have thrown something at her at that point. But you also have to ask "why is she so disapproving o the relationship?" she might know something you dont. This is coming from someone who has a bitch of a sister in law and doesnt do jack around the house or work.

I say it's time to try again... at a dinner where the two of you are alone. Isn't it a basic tendency for public proposals to be uncomfortable and applying unnecessary pressure on the one being proposed to? Your mom is unknowingly doing you a favor, by maximizing the chances of you getting a "yes."

Your fault, engagement should b just you and her, your family doesnt have to b there, especially if ur mom disapproves
