There seems to be a curse over the 1st comment. When it's not imbeciles yelling "FIRST!!!11eleventyone!!1", it's even worse morons spouting out incredibly stupid nonsense. The FML here is OBVIOUSLY not the price of the present or getting one at all, but the fact that she just realized her lousy husband is most likely cheating on her!! (Not to mention that he gives great presents to his lover and lousy Walmart stuff to his wife, which is an additional insult since it implies he values the lover more than the wife, but that's just additional damage, not as bad as the cheating itself.)
If my husband spent months searching for a gift for his sister, mother, etc. I would know about it; most wives would. For OP not to know makes it extremely likely he bought it for another woman. FYL, OP. Your husband is a thoughtful bf and a cheating jerk of a husband.
Imaginatyfoe - you admit that "most" wives would know, but that doesn't mean "all". Your only conclusion is that he's cheating - are you really convinced that there is no other explanation? Some husbands do not brag to their wives that they are looking for something great for their mother or sister because there might be some unreasonable people (like OP and Imaginaryfoe?) who may take it personal and jump to their own conclusions. just saying..
Thank you, Iinchyo. That was what I thought was implied by her "What necklace?" comment. Whodat (btw, nice hat), I wouldn't care if my husband spent time finding a gift for someone. I would know because I would see him on the computer, he would tell me, and he would ask for my help. You're right though, not every wife would know. But if it had been an innocent reason, he probably would've said so immediately so no FML.
Wow, #3, you're as dumb and childish as #1. Way to go. That's the problem with little kiddies commenting on FMLs about adult couples and situations. They can't possibly comprehend what's happening or being said in the FML, and as a result it just creates stupid comments that annoy the actual adult users of the site. :-/
It makes perfect sence, I'll break it down for you; "Today, my husband bought me a beautiful pair of earrings for my birthday," - makes perfect sense. "to match the necklace he'd spent months searching for online the previous year. What necklace?" - this tells us that there was a necklace that wasn't given to the wife, it IMPLIES that he said it was to go with a necklace and she didn't understand what he was on about because of this ->"He gave me a watch he found at Walmart last year." This also implies that the necklace wasn't bought for her. Which leads her to wonder this -> "I wonder who the lucky girl with the necklace is. FML" hence there is an fml because it implies her husband is cheating on her. The only issue is whether or not he did actually buy the necklace and therefore if he did give it to someone else, or if he hid it and then forgot where he put it like someone mentioned.
Actually it doesn't make sense, even with that explanation. Did the OP receive the earrings and her husband said "these are to go with the necklace I bought you last year", then the OP, never receiving a necklace goes "what necklace?", "You know, the one I spent months searching for online," "No never got that one", "Oh, ohhhh, nevermind". Or did the OP monitor her husband's internet usage and look at the websites he was visiting, or does she have a bank statement saying he purchased a necklace. How does she know a necklace was bought is the question. What happened to it? Did he lose the necklace, did he forgot to give it to her, is there another woman? There are too many unanswered questions in this poorly worded FML that it's hard to understand exactly what happened.
I did say the bit about finding out about the necklace was only implied, you do have to make assumptions with any fml because there are nearly always unanswered questions (or maybe I just ask too many questions) It is entirely possible he said that they were to go with a necklace he'd gotten her last year and then mentioned he'd spent a while looking for it, all in the one statement. It's also possible she went into his history to see if he did, again, we dont know if she did this before or after she found out about the necklace (though after is unlikely because internet history tends only to be a few weeks long). It is also possible that they share a bank account in which case if she's looked at the statement and there was an unknown payment she went to see what it was to make sure it was something that was supposed to be being paid. (these are just plausible possibilities from the examples that were in your post) There are many possibilities, however, the fml is the fact that she knows a necklace was bought and the earrings were to go with it and she never recieved the necklace, so she is wondering who did.
I don't understand. How does Op know he bought a matching necklace at all? Just 'cause you look for things on line doesn't mean it was purchased. Now if you saw a bill that's another story but it doesn't say that. Maybe it's a set and he's giving you one piece at a time? Hopefully it's not what you're thinking.
I'm going to say he probably forgot who he bought the necklace for and told her the earrings were to go with it. I know when my boyfriend buys me something to go with something I already have he tells me. It's one of those "I was trying to be thoughtful" statements.
I have to agree that this fml was poorly written. I'm not even sure I fully understand. (but anyway) if you were to look through my computer you'd see that I look for a lot of stuff online!!! I'm crazy for a good deal but that doesn't (in any way what so ever) mean that I buy all of it! OP if this is the only thing that's making you suspicious.... get over yourself
