Unionize

Today, I was fired. Last week, I was written up because I came in one minute late from lunch break. The week before, I was yelled at for yawning. I found out it was all a plan for my boss’s favorite employee to get promoted to my position, so they wanted a reason to terminate me. I work in an “at will” state. FML

Unemployment may still be an option; the right people may end up deciding that their reasons for voting you were bullshit and pay anyway. And while you’re at it, go get a better job and stick it in their faces. Spite is a hell of a motivator.

They could make stuff up to try to say firing the OP was for cause. I have known plenty of people who did that. As petty and unethical that is it’s not entirely illegal unless the OP can prove otherwise. I only know because after tearing tendons and ligaments and falling off a ladder after saying I was injured I had a boss who said I said a racist name. Petty and jealousies are the in thing today apparently.

I've honestly never understood the reason at-will is still even a thing in the States. It just baffles me that this is allowed at all.

Really? Some of our states are fascist. States have a lot of self-determination, but are supposed to be bounded by the federal government. Some states are oppressive and it's not feasible for the national government to intervene. We've had one Civil War over this already, and there's no reason to think another isn't going to happen.
