Today, while waiting in the queue at a supermarket checkout, my three-year-old daughter yells out, "Mom! Mom! Is that a man or a lady in front?" Embarrassed, I reply, "Honey, can't you see that it's a... it's a... a..." FML

I have those moments where I can't decide on the sex of a person either. Normally I just drop it and move on. You have a brave child OP

She is three, so its not bravery so much as ignorance and inexperience. On top of that, you don't NEED to know the gender of a person and people should inform their children of that.

I find this happening more often now. Especially here in the north-west of France. :/

"... a person, honey, and it doesn't matter whether they're a man or a lady" would've been the right answer.

Sometimes you really can't tell, so I don't blame either of you. Hopefully the person wasn't terribly offended. XD
