Today, to avoid disappointing my excited great grandmother, I still attended a small family dinner to celebrate my engagement. My fiancé and I split last night, I haven't slept and had to tell her he was caught up at work. FML

Wow, it's obvious how much she means to you; that must have been excruciating! I'm sure she would have understood, but what's done is done. Hang in there!

She has seen and experienced so much in her life she probably has a great perspective on the situation. Confide in her. Elders aren't as fragile as we tend to think. She might enjoy talking about love and it's complications. Let her try to cheer you up instead of being hurt more having to pretend for her. Might even learn some surprising things about her.

That's really sweet of you! I'm sure you're going to find love again. Better love. Your grandma must be proud of you :)

I'm truly sorry, OP. You must be absolutely exhausted. I sure hope you can collect yourself to be honest with your great grandmother and maybe she can give you some support to help you through this. Best of luck, and know that the FML community is here for you when needed.

I'm sorry to hear that OP but that's a really nice thing that u did for your grandma and it shows that u really care about her.

It's a lovely thing to do for your grandma, but surely you'll have to tell her eventually?

I agree with number 6, although I would use caution In the end, I'm happy you still have your great grandmother around, OP

I tried to talk to my great grandma like that once. She told me not to get under the sheets until I was married. Then she said "I'll show you what a real woman looks like, " and took off the shirt she was wearing and proceeded to swing it in circles above her head. By the end of the day I learned all about what it was like to be a horny teenager in the early 1920s. Don't let them fool you, they got it on everywhere too.

Life doesn't always work out the way you want it to OP, I'm sure your grandmother understands that. Sorry to hear about your breakup.

It's better to get that news out there then to hold onto it. Best of luck OP

well... there is such a thing as too nice afterall.

If not today, she'll have to know someday. It's better to tell her soon, she will be there support you I'm sure. I'm sorry OP, this will get better. Take care.
