Today, my soon to be mother-in-law sent me a birthday present. It was a necklace for me to wear at my wedding. The pendant is a well known lesbian symbol. I'm a woman and I'm marrying her son. FML

Well known lesbian symbol ? I dont know any lesbian symbols ...

I bet you cry "First!" when you're having sex, too...

How would you know it was a lesbian symbol if you're not a lesbian? BUSTED! ...kidding. That's a either a clear message or a misunderstanding.

Uhm... maybe she's not terribly into the idea of you marrying her son. You know... she might be hinting. Though, on the other hand, she could be an absolute dunce concerning that kind of thing, like my own mother.

Eh to an older woman who grew up in a time when homosexuality wasn't as accepted it may look like two intertwined wedding bands and crosses. I would try to talk to her about it, or maybe ask your fiance how to best handle it without hurting her feelings. You could even wear a necklace that maybe has been in your family and say it's tradition. I wouldn't read into it that much though.

You have a point denzelephant. No excuses for that one, do you know how i can change it?

Maybe she doesn't know. You might think it's a "well known symbol", but lot of people just don't know. Me for example. :) I have no idea what lesbian / homosexual symbol looks like. I don't care really.

A 'well known symbol'? WTF is it, a pair of boobs?

Well, if the "son" was originally a daughter before a sex change, then technically you are gay. lol.

Your soon to be mother in law is old of course, and lacks any knowledge of the modern culture.

I'd say she didn't know, or she's giving you a hint. Either way, marry him.
