Today, my parents met my girlfriend for the first time and cooked us dinner. After, I was helping clean up in the kitchen and my dad says to me, "Don't worry, you have to slay a couple of dragons before you get to the princess." and winks at me. She heard. I was going to propose to her tonight. FML

We met in Europe, and I currently live in England and my parents live in the States, so that's why they haven't met her yet. I still proposed, and she said yes. And yes, my dad was calling her ugly.

First time she meets the parents and already you're proposing?

seriously guys, lots of couples spend many meaningful years together without having met each others' parents! people live far away, are too busy to travel, can't afford to travel, etc. etc. etc. lay off him, i'm sure he's thought his proposal through.

AWWWW!!! See, this was the perfect opportunity for you to win points with her! All you should've said was: "But dad, this is my princess." And there!!! You would've been more than in the clear lol

your parents met her for the first time and you wanted to propose to her that night? what if they didnt approve? poor choice of timing, my friend.

Not everyone needs or even looks for "approval" for something like that. I certainly wouldn't.

You've been together long enough to propose, but this is only the first time she's met your parents? That's a little ****** up, in my opinion. Wouldn't you want to know what they thought of her - and not just upon first impression, but after getting to know her properly! - before you asked her to join your family? Not much forethought there!

i defintely heard this quote from the Jillian on the bachelor talking about jason

well did you defend her to him? cuz of course she is going to be mad if she hears him say that and you dont do anything to contradict him

Wow, don't you think that your parents should be better acquainted with your girlfriend before you decide to marry her? Meeting them should come waaaaay before proposing. >>;

Wow, I can't believe so many people just missed the point of that fml. I'm in a frat at my college, and the phrase "slaying a dragon" is a common term used if your really ****** up and just want to get some. An example in context would be " dude, Jim was so ****** up last night, I can't believe he slayed that dragon." To be a dragon, you have to be incredibly repulsive. THAT's why that was such a fml.

Dude, it may have ruined things for a NIGHT. But in the end, you could still propose to her, and she'd most likely say yes... because if she's really ugly enough to be considered "a dragon", well she's in no situation to be picky (especially over something as benign as a DADS comment- NOT his), IS she? In other words... the dad said it, not him... she's ugly anyway and that was the truth... boyfriend just has to chastise his dad, say its not true, and apologize sincerely to her later... and all will be fixed. =================================== And #55, UNWAD YOUR PANTIES!!! With THIS DAD, no WONDER the guy didn't have the girl meet his parents sooner!!! Good god I swear, you women want it both ways! You would get offended if you met a dad like that, but then you turn around and say he should have brought his "dragon girlfriend" there SOONER? LMAO
