Today, after my husband applied for a VA loan so we could move out of our ridiculously overpriced apartment and into our first home as a mortgage would be significantly cheaper, we were denied. If we can afford $1400/month in rent, we surely can’t be trusted with $1000/month for a mortgage, right? FML

Damn, that is screwed up. I use VA loans as well and have never been denied. You should try a credit union rather than a bank. Also, find out why they denied you.

I've never had any problems with getting my VA loans. Try to find out why the said no. Try a loan thru USAA. I got a home loan thru Mr. Cooper. 2% interest. I really hope you get your home. Renting sucks

That’s because the bank also accounts for your property taxes and home insurance which probably bring it to more than $1400.

Have you heard of property tax, inspection, realtor fees, water, heat, electricity, maintenance..... you have 400$ for all that and more.

$1000 a month? That’s my property tax bill.

What? I pay that for my mani-pedi. Mizuki is the best, and I will not trade her in for anyone. Plus, she always wears really low-cut... I'm going off topic here, so I'll stop.

You may need a higher credit rating. Also even though you don’t need a down payment with a VA loan closing cost could run about 10k.

That’s because you’ve also got rates to pay depending where you live. It’s ******* expensive

We had no problem with a va loan for a new house but an older house was harder to get. Don’t get the specifics cause my hubby dealt with it all.
