Today, my dad and I were shovelling snow off the roof. I told him I was going to jump off the roof. He told me to go ahead, so I did. He failed to tell me that the snow was packed and wouldn't break my fall. I now have an injured back. He didn't tell me because he didn't think I would actually do it. FML

Today, my dad and I had an argument. Then we went outside to shovel the snow out of the driveway. I heard him yelling and figured he was just yelling at me some more, so I turned my iPod up so I couldn't hear him anymore. Turns out he had fallen, cracked a rib, and needed help up. FML

Today, I walked across my kitchen to go get my mom a blanket after she shoveled snow. I slipped and caught the kitchen chair with my side, landed on the floor and almost fracturing my knee cap. She then told me she wasn't cold. FML

Today, my father was pruning the tree in our front yard. I was helping him collect the falling branches. At one point, a branch fell and I was under it. My father jumped to push me out of the way. Instead he pushed the branch into my face. FML

Today, my dad asked if I'd help him clean the gutters. I was given the responsibility of holding the ladder while he went on the roof. All I heard was laughter before a year's worth of rotting vegetation landed on top of my head. FML

Today, while on the roof of my friend's house, I took a shortcut down by jumping onto the roof of his nearby shed. Not only did I go right through it and hurt my arm, I've also received several calls from my friend's dad, demanding I pay for the damage. FML

Today, it snowed. So, a guy I like and I decided to go sledding. I really wanted to impress him by going down the hill and casually slowing down at the bottom right at his feet. Instead, I crashed into him and broke his ankle. FML

Today, I'm at my grandparents' house to help clear snow. I was making a path to the driveway by pushing the snow out of the way. I saw a big pile and went to kick it really hard. Alas, it was a step. FML

Today, two days after leaving hospital with a broken left leg, I tripped and fell heavily on the floor. My dad quickly asked if I'd broken my other leg. When I reassured him that I hadn't, he disappointedly muttered that it would've been a hilarious story to tell his friends at work. FML

It was still a foolish thing to do. On another note, your dad needs a reality check — an absence of parenting means that he, in fact, really isn't a parent at all. Negligence and endangerment aren't exactly good personality traits for a potential parent either.

Maybe OP was a whiney attention seeking daughter who always threatens things for attention - in which case maybe not rewarding her with attention is the best course of action. And wanting to jump off a roof in the cold whether or not there is a pile of snow is stupidity beyond reason. Even if she didn't realise snow = ice = hard she should have known snow = ice = slippery And it would have been a fun day at the hospital. What happened to you? "I jumped off the roof onto a hunk of snow because I thought it would be soft like in movies and totally unlike the slippery hard mess everything is now"

I don't think her dad is negligent at all. It seems to me that what happened is they were talking and joking around and the OP said something that anyone with any sense would think is a joke. So her dad (most likely joking) told her to go ahead and do it thinking she wasn't actually being serious. Quite frankly, if your parents assume you're actually stupid enough to jump off a roof then you need to reevaluate your life thus far.
