Today, I was told that the $500 I'm owed for babysitting isn't going to happen. Why? Because after six months of watching a friend's six children, she's moved 120 miles away and no longer needs me. FML

Hey guys, OP here. After reading some of the comments I can see there is a bit of confusion. The babysitting thing was a great gig at the start. She was paying me $200/week. What had happened was she hurt her back and couldn't work but had to go to multiple dr appointments there after. I was wanting to take a CNA course that cost $500. So we agreed she would pay for the class if I continued to watch the kids during her appointments. I held up my end she didn't.

You deserve it. Never do anything on the front. Not even for a "friend".

Small claims court my friend. But I am curious as to why you didn't get paid daily or even weekly. I have babysat a lot and always got paid at the end of the day or of the week.

Sorry dude but YDI for not standing up for your rights and being more assertive in the first place. Not even for the best of friends should you have babysat SIX freaking kids for free more than once or twice. If she promised you money, you should have demanded it much sooner and stopped letting her rack up such a high bill. It should've been obvious to you after the $100 mark that someone with that many damn kids would never pay up. Sorry but a good lesson for next time -- people WILL walk over you IF you LET them.

OP doesn't say the $500 was for the full six months. It could have been the last month's pay, while the six months suggest he/she trusted their friend.

I'd go to small claims court and get it.

The infamous 100% friends and family discount.

It's too bad that someone you considered a friend would stiff you like that. Take it as a lesson learned & always have a written contract, even if its a "friend". That way you are both know what the deal is & you are both protected from something like this happening again.

why did you continue without being paid the first time?
