Today, I was talking to a friend and bemoaning the fact that my new coworkers keep mixing up my gender. She looked at me critically and said, "Yeah, until you can grow a decent beard, people are going to keep thinking you're an intern or a butch lesbian." FML

Today, I got a new haircut. I was feeling pretty confident, until coworkers and family members kept making comments like, "I think you gained a little weight", "You look older" and "Do you still like guys?" Apparently, my new haircut changed my waist size and my sexual orientation. FML

Today, I was stopped by a customer who told me that I looked like a nice woman. I thanked him for the compliment and pointed out that I was a man. With an obviously male name on my name tag. And visible facial hair. FML

Today, I was complimented by a stranger, who said I looked great in my outfit. I thanked her, and she immediately gave me a fist-bump. I stared curiously, and she explained: she was arguing with her friends about whether I'm a man or a woman. The pitch of my voice was the answer. FML

Today, one of my dad's work friends came over. As he was leaving, he complimented my dad on having three "strapping young boys." I informed him that I'm a girl, and I have a hormone imbalance that causes me to have a lot of hair and a deep voice. I guess my dress didn't give him a clue. FML

To all the commenters telling him to 'get over it'; if someone called you a woman/man constantly and used he/she to refer to you when you know you are the opposite, you're going to get a bit pissed off, aren't you? Keep your chin up, OP. They'll come around eventually.

I feel you. This happens to me all the time. I'm either mistaken for a man or a lesbian by people who meet me for the first time. I do enjoy it though when they assume then I speak and my light, feminine voice comes out XD

I'm a transman, and it happens all the time. I don't know if you're trans or cis, but either way it sucks. Hang in there OP. Your friend is kinda shitty for saying that to you.
